Actor John Cusack, known for his outspoken leftist views, sparked controversy last Friday by expressing support for Iran obtaining nuclear weapons. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Cusack argued that nuclear armament was necessary for Iran to deter what he described as aggressive actions by the United States and Israel in the Middle East.

“Iran will surely rush to get a nuclear weapon — and they should get one,” he wrote. “It’s the only way to deter US and Israel from bombing every country in the Middle East.”

Cusack’s remarks came shortly after President Donald Trump authorized a series of military strikes targeting three major Iranian nuclear development facilities. On June 21, U.S. B-2 stealth bombers dropped 30,000-pound bunker-busting bombs in an attack Trump hailed as “a spectacular military success.”

The actor has long been critical of both Israel and Trump, particularly regarding U.S. foreign policy in the region. His social media history is filled with posts condemning Israeli military actions in Gaza and its confrontations with Iran. In one post, Cusack suggested that supporting Israel equates to backing a “genocidal regime,” claiming the country is governed by “a murderous gangster.”

Cusack also targeted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, accusing him of killing innocent children and criticizing the U.S. for enabling such acts. He added his disapproval of recent Israeli strikes in Lebanon, writing, “Israel bombs Lebanon! Well, they can’t have any days when they are not illegally bombing someone while US grovels.”

In another politically charged message, Cusack praised democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani’s victory in the New York City mayoral Democratic primary, framing it as a strong rebuke to billionaires, establishment Democrats, and U.S. support for actions in Gaza and Iran.

Cusack went further, blasting Democratic leaders for what he called their silence in the face of atrocities in Gaza. In a scathing post, he claimed that their failure to oppose the conflict should “haunt them for the rest of their lives” and cost them their political careers.

While Cusack’s views have long aligned with far-left perspectives, his latest support for Iran acquiring nuclear weapons has ignited new backlash and reignited debate over celebrity involvement in global political discourse.
